The K-Team - Is Kill Team the answer?

Warhammer, and 40k in my case, is inherently all about "What if I add this or that unit into my army?" This triggers an entire workflow:
1) Theoretical thought about usage and tactics concerning the unit to add.
2) Collect the models required for the unit based on theoreticals of previous step.
3) Assemble the models.
4) Paint the models.
5) Play long game(s) with them, and ask yourself the question "What if I add this or that unit into my army?"

This gets tedious over time with any army. So what do most players do? Decide to collect another army, of course! And the cycle repeats itself.

After time, this in itself gets tedious/expensive/time absorbing, causing players (well actually, I'm talking mostly about myself) to quit the hobby and start spending time and money in other pursuits.

Apocalypse Then?

Back when the first iteration of Apocalypse was released, I was in a 2 year hobby-void where the only thing I did, related to the hobby, was read codices and novels. I did this just to stay in the hobby mind-set for a bit.

So I bought the book and read it cover to cover. I wasn't very impressed and as I didn't have a big enough army nor a regular opponent, no Apocalypse games were played. The big models were cool, like the Baneblade and Stompa (was that released along with Apoc?), but the release came and went and not much of an F was given.

I read the recent rumors about the new iteration of Apocalypse and had the same thought about it: Meh.
But then...

One power armour; coming up!

I just read an article on Gizmodo that talks about a new support system for soldiers, called "Warrior Web".

The idea is that it's a full suit that can be worn underneath the soldier's uniform. It incorporates such things as sensors, components to provide joint support where needed and the ability to stiffen to help distribute weight of gear carried on the body.

Is anyone else seeing the similarities with the Space Marine's black carapace?
Could this, along with the developments in exoskeletons, be the first step towards a fully functioning power armour?

Weekend Thoughts - Hobby time and Kroot

The weekend has come and gone again. For some people, it was filled with hobby goodness and tales of glorious victories or ignominious defeats on the tabletop battlefields...

For me? Not so much.

Allow me to introduce a new post series: WTF?

It's short for "What to field?"... did you think it was something else?

After reading the new Tau Empire Codex and reading some people's 'review' of the units online, I wanted to give you all my opinion about what units and combinations can be fielded. This will not be limited to Tau only.

In no way is this a complete guide, nor is it guaranteed to give you an unbeatable unit or army. This is purely meant for me to voice my opinion on different units and how I might be fielding them...

These will be presented in the NanoPosttm format. Concise and to the point.

Weekend thoughts - New releases and Cosplay

Hobby-wise, not much happened this weekend. It seems that a new iteration of the Eldar is soon to be upon us but since I don't have a regular Eldar opponent, it's not that big of a deal.

Codex Tau Empire - First thoughts (style, fluff, pictures)

This was the first weekend with some actually nice weather, so life got in the way of the hobby. The garden needed some TLC, the pond was in need of a good spring cleaning and we had to find out if the BBQ still worked.

... and if the new Palm beer is any good... it is!

I did however, get some reading done, although not as much as I had hoped. These are my first thoughts about the stuff I have seen in the codex.

RE: Mechanicus Adeptus

Just a short reaction to Faeit 212's post today about the Adeptus Mechanicus.

As we can all see, GW is more and more trending towards bigger kits. Where before, they wanted us to buy more and more, now they want us to buy bigger and bigger (and more).

So I can really see this happening in the not-too-distant future, allowing you to buy a 1500p army using only a small amount of huge kits with a small amount of smaller kits to fill out the remaining points.

This way, the threshold for people starting yet another army is lowered. In my opinion, it's easier to convince someone to buy 3 large boxes of stuff than it is to convince them to buy 12 small boxes of stuff, even if it costs the same amount of money for the same amount of points in-game.

Will I be buying the XV104 Riptide for my Tau army that hasn't seen the tabletop for over 3 years? Probably, yes... even inspiring me to continue buying stuff to flesh out the army.

I see the same trend (albeit in a smaller scale) with my Dark Angels as well. I decided to start a Deathwing-focussed force, just because the amount of models needed to play is low (and I told myself and my significant other that the Deathwing is not a new army... noooo, it's part of my Dark Angels force... of course I will be fielding 20+ terminators in a DA army at 1500p...)
